Dear friend,
As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to save many people alive, as is happening today.
Uncertainty about the future spreads into every room in the house, even the ones that have nothing to do with the actual decision ahead of you.
There are two ways I want to look at this with you this morning, because I don't think one angle is honest by itself. The first is Abraham, told to leave his country and his father's household for a place not yet named to him. Genesis does not say the fear left before his feet did. He was simply given a direction and not a map.
The second is in the same book, years later, when Joseph tells his brothers that what they intended for harm, God intended for good. I notice that sentence was only available to him afterward, standing in Egypt with the whole story behind him. He could not have said it while it was still happening. That is worth sitting with, because it means the peace people quote so easily was not available to him in the moment either.
So I am not going to tell you the fear should lift before you take the next step. What did you notice yourself doing yesterday, the day the fear was loudest?
A prayer
God, You know what tomorrow holds for her and she does not, and that gap is where the fear lives tonight. Steady her feet before her feelings catch up, and stay close in the not-knowing. Amen.
