Dear friend,
I wait for the LORD. My soul waits. I hope in his word. My soul longs for the Lord more than watchmen long for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.
Okay. So. I checked the mail today for something I wasn't even expecting yet. Just checked it anyway, like standing in front of the microwave watching the seconds count down. I do this. I refresh things that cannot possibly have changed in the last four minutes.
I don't know exactly what you're waiting on right now, only that it's sitting there, unresolved, and I keep thinking about how waiting on something shows up in a body before it shows up in words. My shoulders get up near my ears. I snap at my daughter over a dropped fork. None of that is about the fork.
There's a line in Psalm 130 about waiting for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning. Twice, that phrase. Whoever wrote that knew one watch wasn't enough to say it. I like that it's not dressed up as peaceful. Watchmen stay awake because they have to, not because they're calm about it.
I'm not going to tell you it will resolve on any particular timeline, because I don't know that. What does the waiting feel like in your body today?
A prayer
God, You know exactly what she's waiting on even when the not-knowing wears her out. Steady her while the answer isn't here yet. Be near to her tonight. Amen.
